Big news!
Wisteria Community Association–aka Stone Soup–has set up their kitchen operations in the Old City Quarter.
Every day for the last two and a half years, Wisteria volunteers have been preparing and delivering bagged lunches to 150+ homeless and low-income individuals in downtown Nanaimo, and beyond. With our new COVID-oriented commercial kitchen on Fitzwilliam Street, Wisteria is now able to prepare hot meals for delivery to vulnerable people in different parts of the city.
We are sincerely grateful to our partners for their generosity and continued support. This includes FoodRescue.ca, Nanaimo Food Bank, Khalsa Aid Canada, Fairway Market, Tillicum Lelum Aboriginal Friendship Centre, and Island Health. We also want to thank all of the volunteers, businesses and kind-hearted citizens who have donated so much of their time and supplies to help us help others.
Wisteria Community Association became a registered charity in 2019 and has been a member of FoodRescue.ca since 2020. We provide food, friendship, and donated clothing and supplies to at-risk populations in Nanaimo, including people who are homeless, almost homeless, or street-entrenched due to poverty, racism, mental illness and/or substance use disorders.
We are also grateful to all the volunteers and businesses who have donated time and supplies.

More Details
The formation of the Wisteria Community Association grew out of the transformation and beautification of Wisteria Lane -what used to be an alley between Nicol Street and Victoria Road in Nanaimo. The Association was established by a group of friends and neighbours who wanted to do more for their community. They've gone on to host annual events to feed local homeless, low income and working poor citizens of Nanaimo and hosted the Stone Soup Kitchen - the only soup kitchen in Nanaimo, operating from 6pm to 10pm every day.
Wisteria Community Association is now a registered charity operating in Nanaimo, BC.
